Bloom

Bloom

A Poem by Seriana

Bloom

A heart lies in a pool,

languid and weary.

Tepid the waters that slow flow and slosh around,

cloaking in a protective armor

of transformative fragility yet unknown.

A beautiful deception hangs all abound,

walls that suspend in surround,

coated with brilliant stones of gems.

Sparkling,

alluring,

they provoke a desire within,

a perceived worth painful to resist.

The gems drop with ease.

Tempting,

they are timidly gathered.

One is chosen,

and then another,

for the heart seeks pleasure first.

Plunging hesitant hands through the puddles of jeweled waters,

They are picked up,

caressed,

“loved”,

and cherished,

held in accord with the mind’s heart,

warily longed for,

a fleshly craving in the palm…

Agony like no other….

without warning,

without care,

ignites from within,

a smoldering pain explodes inside…

giving the heart reason to pause…

The exquisite gems are regarded again.

They are viewed,

this time through a different lens…

Skewed slightly,

but transparent in still view.

One of strength,

courage,

and devotion to self.

Amongst all others,

a solitary stone stands alone in tone,

strong and misshapen,

unnoticed at first,

its magnanimous beauty unmatched.

Piercing fire and quiescent ice,

silvery opalescence…

It glows with a stinging vengeance

an unimaginable tenderness,

graceful uniqueness,

an irreplaceable treasure to behold.

An inside passage of pleasure

seeking first the delicate vigil of the heart…

As a young person (long ago) not realizing I was bipolar, I used to crave drama in my relationships. Bipolar people are often attracted to other bipolar people due to this penchant for drama. Your poem reminds me of the roller coaster ride it would be, craving an intensity that could sometimes feel almost like pain . . . good pain . . . bad pain . . . all mixed up into a vat of uncertainty . . . not knowing whether to run toward or away. That's the back-and-forth ambivalent sensation I get from your keenly sparkling descriptions of falling, wondering, delving, forgiving . . . all that tumbling that goes along with any longed-for bloom (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

So beautiful, the gems we seek, the gems we disregard. The desire for the warmth of love. Those gems that we hold on to and cherish, never wanting to let them go, hoping to keep them forever in our hearts.
A heart that will remember the glow of each stone we have tossed away or let slip from our fingers.

Take care - Dave

You lay your words firmly yet subtly.. each line a small hint of emotion that can glow with either pain or happiness. What we see, what we find, often seemingly insignificant but oh so worth feeling in hand, against heart means it had and has that special something.. possession or love or another being.. irreplacable perhaps..

' Its magnanimous beauty unmatched. - Piercing fire and quiescent ice, - silvery opalescence… -
It glows with a stinging vengeance - an unimaginable tenderness, - ' Worthy of passion..

ohhh i love this .. the metaphor of gems and jewels .. well done! very creative and unique says i! there is conflict ... dichotomy in both genders no doubt; but the added boost of emotion within women can seem doubly so ... and i really like how you reveal her power .. and the progression of love from physical to one's character has much wisdom behind it. finding such a priceless gem within .. she must certainly keep vigil surrounding it ... i like this a lot .. so creative and smart work says i ... its what i see anyway ;)....................

There isn’t a line of phrase or words written in this sentiment of beauty and emotions, I don’t like. This is a poem that you can’t help but feel while you read it.

Thank you Arthur! So happy to see you here again! Appreciate your kind words. :)
I can only say how your lines made me feel. I felt a heart that had weathered storms. One that may have been almost broken. Then I felt a turning point, as though heart is saying, it is ready to take another chance. To pick a jewel that is worth holding on to. To pick one from a pile of glass gems that is priceless and leaves the others in the shade.

Thank you Chris. What a beautiful interpretation! I love it! I always appreciate you stopping by :)
The heart, or feeling nature, is a persistent image throughout this offering. We are met with the declaration
"for the heart seeks pleasure first." It first seems that the "gems" represent physical pleasures, but after a jolt of pain, they are seen rather as spiritual qualities such as strength and courage. The mysterious solitary stone mentioned at the end appears to have other qualities, including stinging vengeance and unimaginable tenderness and "an inside passage of pleasure." Not exactly sure what this last part refers to.

The heart wearing armor occurs when it has been mistreated in the past. I have my own set of armor as I believe many of us do.

The jewels is a beautiful story in this poem. Picking choosing investigating and deciding yet again.

We long for love and companionship even when we are well guarded. We want that one person to love us without fail.

I have chosen stone even though mine is without reach in the bottom of the pool buried beneath sand.

I truly loved this poem with its beauty and guarded heart

I always find it interesting how each person will take something iniquity away from a piece.
Gloriously painful... the choosing... the neglecting... the jeweled desire of longing. The heart can feel the beautiful nature of this treasure... and yet one wonders how some treasures are left behind. So powerfully voiced.
