OK, i am thinking this is an older one like you said you would send, right? If so, or if not, I like the imagery in it. I think if you can somehow combine the imagery of something like this with the flowing, free verse style of that other one of yours i reviewed (...fiction...), that would be a good challenge and could be very successful! : )
Simply captivating. The box is so inviting yet, its a trap. It puts a new twist on "you can't judge a book by its cover". I love the way it begins with the pretty rhyms and then the chaos starts. Well done...
Fascinating words and thoughts and they ring such truth and warning. Another beautifully written and crafted poem from you. I love the clever way you incorporated Pandora's Box. I especially related to this part....
"You know nothing of my soul
Masquerading in the finest horror show
All you seek is your wretched goal
Smothering the light and diffusing my glow"
Your writing is a masterpiece to relate to and a lesson spoke of to learn from!
What I love about the poem is how many ways it could be interpreted... what I mostly see is the Pandora's box being relationships cause once you start it there is no way of going back and pretending it didn't happen no matter how hard you try, I also see it as cruel words you speak that you can never take back... either way this is an exceptional piece of work again from you. In fact one of my favs.
"I've never stopped you before
Yesh.my precious
Slither in
My gift is here
I know you want it
You've craved it
I've felt your twisted desire
Lurking in my shadows
Do you really know?
Really?
Alright then
Open the box
Take off my lid
Yesthat's it"
Is almost sexual in nature and gives the poem a crazy twist the poem itself is alluring in its own way and shows the desires and urges we cant resist. I must say though in response to quills comment that although all that is accurate I dont really see the relevance. The ending line seemed to be a metaphor for the person spoken to in the poem hence the line "your pandora's box" meaning the individuals own desires who would be in the same sense pandora opening her own box.
In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create her and he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many talents; Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo music, Hermes persuasion, and so forth. Hence her name: Pandora, "all-gifted". Pandora
When Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. With her, Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope.
Seri, Always remember that it was Pandora that opened the box. Not anyone else. Someone else might be telling Pandora to do it, but it was SHE that did the opening.
I am the walrus...this has the same catchy feel as the Beatles tune. Great write! You could obviously be a talented sci or fantasy writer, especially in the adult Heavy Metal kind of dark writing. Very enjoyable pit to fall into!
