The Collector

The Collector

A Poem by Seriana

The Collector

With firm, quiet resolve it sits,

steadfast,

flat upon the supporting podium.

Once opened fortuitously

to a page of forgotten words,

now opaque,

as the curtains of dust collect.

They walk by in silence,

the disturbance in air pressure flipping pages at random,

to land anew,

at rest.

Peace.

Different words now,

ancient in the archaic way,

unnoticed.

They walk by in ignorance,

never noticing the filaments of knowledge

emanating from the pages of words.

Whispers of resilience echo,

and time slips back as the pages settle.

Freshly laid to begin,

again,

the collection of antiquated dust

This, no doubt to be eventually recognized as a valuable publication and placed in safe storage to increase in value or to be completely overlooked and thrown into a pile of oblivion where it rots away as the last copy is lost forever to mankind!!
The dust settles on it, thicker and thicker until it becomes soil that eventually attracts a passing seed, which roots and grows into a tree of knowledge where scholars come to sit beneath its boughs and absorb its "enhanced' thoughts.
They then take this knowledge to attempt to solve the woes of mankind, but mankind has managed to screw things up so completely that major grandstands will have to be built below its branches to accommodate enough scholars to make any difference to mankind's wrongfully followed path.

Your words, although beautiful are a warning, dear friend. You've nudged them into time's light maybe, who knows to remind people how much there is to learn, and, is pretty well available to mind, heart and brain; always worthf keeping close, Fingers able to reach in a breath and touch it.. ..could reach in a breath and touch it all.

' They walk by in silence, - the disturbance in air pressure flipping pages at random, - to land anew, -
at rest. Peace. - Different words now, - ancient in the archaic way, - unnoticed. '
