Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

It’s been a good run, but it is time for me to move on.  I knew when we met it would eventually come to this.  It always does.  It’s not that she did anything wrong, or that I did anything wrong.  We both did plenty wrong.  That’s never it.  You can forget all that.

Eventually, you just get bored.  Nothing lasts forever.

Actually, she treated me pretty good.  I can’t complain.  But time changes things, doesn’t it?  Is anyone still the same person they were when they started a relationship?

If we grew apart over time, is it really anyone’s fault?

So it has come to this.  It is time for me to move on.  And it is going to hurt you more than it will hurt me.  Because I’m not just some guy who fell out of love with some lady.  I’m the being that came here four billion years ago and brought my lamp with me.  That thing you refer to as the Sun.

I’ll be leaving my house, car, and all my earthly possessions.  You won’t have much use for any of it, except perhaps for my coat.  But I must take the lamp with me.  It’s the only one I have.  It will get cold and dark a few minutes after I turn it off.

I can't say I particularly agree with the philosophy, but I do like the twist at the end.

The flow feels a little choppy, so it would be a good idea to lengthen some of the sentences to improve that.

Thanks for reading and the advice.
A great story. Very subtle, but ends with a punch.
