PandemicA Poem by May FosnesSweet, Suzy Q exclaimed: "Oh! My favorite song!" She reached her hand out to put two fingers on the knob. She threw her head back and laughed. The wind kissed her soft skin. She put on her favorite bubblegum-pink nail polish and wore her cutest, tiniest mini skirt, her favorite. It was spring time and the pandemic just hit the United States. Trees were in bloom. Flower petals whisked across the street. Traffic wasn't bad. She was loving this moment. She smiled and turned to eye empty parking lots. The clouds were plentiful, the sky baby blue. "I just love this song." Suzy Q popped a mint in her mouth then took in a big, cool breath that chilled down her neck right into her chest. She missed her friends and family. But, she couldn't think about that right now; her favorite song was on. The beat picked up. She reflected back on her childhood that was filled with people and filled with life. More blossoms crossed the street. She looked down at her legs peaking out of her skirt. She intentionally wore it to cheer herself up from how lonely she felt before. The beat picked up even faster. More empty parking lots passed by her view. "Oh! Another car." She felt tempted to wave. She was feeling great. She looked up at the sky when the beat hit it's climax. Then, raced her red car up the bridge. That's when she flew. Soaring into the baby blue sky, she disappeared into the clouds to start anew. © 2020 May Fosnes |
