Lust for Rage

Lust for Rage

A Poem by May Fosnes

Have you ever been in love?

Have you ever done something

stupid and loud,

just so boys,

who never look at you,

might glance your way?

Have you ever stolen the hat

off of someone’s head

so that they might chase you?

Because you’re not used to being chased.

Then you grow up

and you get your revenge

with your sensuality.

Have you ever had someone spit on your face?

Cloths off?

Cloths on.

Eyes shut.

Mouth open.

I’m screaming.

Do you confuse lust with rage?

Breast covered or uncovered,

there is still blood pumping.

You can fill up your happy little life;

there is a point

when they replace all the candles on your cake

with two.

But, I

put on your hat with love.

When you grow up,

perhaps you'll earn the discretion

to do the same things you used to do

when you were young. Maybe it isn't as ugly now...

Where do you make the exchange?

I have picked flower petals.

But, you always stop

at two.

Have you ever been in love?

There’s comes a time when

you’re so smart and quiet

just so someone, who has looked at you,

might not glance your way.

Do you think I want to be chased?

Let me ask you:

what do you replace?

The flowers invite

stains on two fingers. And yet, still you're waiting

for some type of revenge.

I have confused lust with rage.

The flame is blown out.

The blood is still pumping.
