Gifts to You From Me From You

Gifts to You From Me From You

A Poem by May Fosnes

I gave you the gift of Desire
to sit on the back porch
so that you could avoid
avoiding eye contact
and pretending not to hear
a quiet, hollow,
hello.

You gave me the habit
of flicking lighters
with my middle finger
and lying
to my boyfriend when
I say, I love you-
hollow.

You also gave me that scar,
on my knee,
the left one,
shaped like a star
reflecting the night
of dirty, clumsy, vengeance.
Making my body poetry,
the greatest gift, I believe.

From you, I gained a piece
of mind,
a piece of pie,
a sliver of lies.

From me, you gained a story of ball licking
and of an a*s kicking.

From you-
a stomach ache.
From me -
a heady claim.

For me,
a hearty laugh,
when I look back at your gift
of bad, very bad,
sex.
