Not enough

Not enough

A Poem by Serena Monteleone

I’ve tried to give you my all,

But I know that it’s not enough.

Maybe I’m just scared?

If that’s the case then maybe i’m just not ready?

I’m lost in your eyes,

And confused by your words.

I know we promised forever, but do you think that our forever is over?

I’d ask you to pray for us,

But I’ve been doing it enough.

Maybe it’s over,

Maybe it’s not.

But how did you feel that one summer night,

When we both promised forever with a kiss goodnight,

Do you still feel the same?

That is what led to us being secluded into this darkness that we cannot seem to escape from.

My subconscious is telling me to put the pen down now,

But my heart is telling me to put more words on the page,

Because the longer you read,

The longer you’ll stay.

Do you ever think that our forever has an expiration date?

Were our hearts brought together just to be shattered, or to help be put together again?

The answers to these questions are irrelevant.

They can’t fix the damage.

I know we promised forever,

But do you think our forever is over?

A heartfelt and poignant write. The sadness and sense of uncertainty are palpable in this poetic piece. I don't know if this is autobiographical or not, but you make the reader believe that it is true. Nicely done. ~ Robert.
