For my mother (may she live longer)

For my mother (may she live longer)

A Poem by S. S. Allen

In the frosted pewter frames,

Hung against the walls of my heart,

Our memories I preserve.

Black and white, shiny eyes and ivories.

I am grateful that you are still here.

I gain strength from your life.

Oh but that day when you kiss the earth,

Where the white dead-nettles run wild.

And salty lakes flow from the windows of my eyes.

Though the ship of my heart may sink,

I’ll never stop telling the story of you,

Through your kindred spirit I arise.

Live in me, warrior woman.

Well said, Ms. Allen, well said, truly.

"Through your kindered spirit I rise... Live in me warrior woman."

This powerful statement expressed the deep impact she has had in your life, making this piece (and her demise) very powerful and relatable; for she will forever live on through your heart--in, your heart.

What a endearing piece to what I believe to be a beautiful and strong woman.

I honor your openness of expression and I feel both your pain and suffering as well as your desire/dedication to hold onto her for as long as you live.

Well done, emotionally expressive poem, Ms. Allen.

Much love,

LR
