For my mother (may she live longer)A Poem by S. S. AllenIn the frosted pewter
frames, Hung against the walls of my heart, Our memories I preserve. Black and white,
shiny eyes and ivories. I am grateful that you are still here. I gain strength from your life. Oh but that day when you
kiss the earth, Where the white dead-nettles
run wild. And salty lakes flow
from the windows of my eyes. Though the ship of my heart may sink, I’ll never stop
telling the story of you, Through your kindred spirit I arise. Live in me, warrior
woman. © 2017 S. S. AllenReviews
