For Jessica

For Jessica

A Poem by S. S. Allen
"

I wrote this for a good friend of mine, as she left for college before I did.

"

You were not my best friend.

Nor one of my good friends.

You were just there.

Then....

You became more certain.

Took on a new vibe.

Magnetizing those around you, more so me.

You grew up!

Metamorphosed into a magnificent butterfly.

Which of course I knew you would fly away someday.

Just not right now.

Not when the last chapter in our book...left unwritten.

“Best friends” the title would have read.

You made me laugh in the most unlikely settings.

And I thought it was me.

When all this time, it was you.

Singing your soliloquy of a new song.

That's a very nice poem when it comes to best friends. Keep up the good work :)

Watching them grow and perhaps even outgrow us, former best friends is bittersweet.
Love the final line so much!
