Philosophies

Philosophies

A Poem by Nobody.

A daffy Bahamian lizard with Don Lorenzo on his breath is ranting to me about the need for laughter in times of adversity. I’m honored to be chosen for such an enlightening lecture. But, I can’t look him in the face, because every time he blinks sideways, a bolt of nausea shoots through my belly.

Then, a lovely yellow bird flies through, and snatches the poor creature up right in front of me. I hear him laugh insanely as he is roughly abducted. I wish I understood his philosophy. But, usually, when the predatory shadow blocks out my sun, or tickles my innards, I cry.

To be sure I wasn’t missing the prophecy in the tealeaves, I asked two wise men for their opinions. The unhappy live guy gave much better answers than the happy cadaver. Sometimes, philosophies can’t change anything. Laughter is hard to muster without breath. And, sadly, there'll always be beautiful yellow birds waiting to destroy evrything you've built.
