John and I

John and I

A Poem by Nobody.

everyday,

he sends an email that reads:

“you should be a way better person.”

each day I reply,

“you should find a better way to say that.”

when we were kids,

we just punched each other a lot,

ate mushrooms

and tried to form whole universes

based on creative profanity

and surrealist cookie dough.

I’m not sure if we’re growing

or shrinking;

I’m not sure if it matters.

at least we're trying.

when we burn out,

there’ll be a smoke trail that

others can follow to our

beautiful Nothing;

another thumbtack hole in the drywall

to fill with toothpaste

before the meaty shell

is finally evacuated;

before Good and Evil

divvy up the divide.

and,

besides all of that,

I should be a way better person.
