The Poetaster's Prayer

The Poetaster's Prayer

A Poem by Nobody.
"

For Lily Mae. To be read aloud at the start of every Poets Anonymous meeting. :)

"

Poetry,

 grant me the creativity
to change the lies I cannot accept;
courage to write down what truths I can;
and wisdom to know when to bring each piece

to an end.

scribing one word at a time;
crafting one verse at a time;
accepting writer’s block

as the pathway to reinvigoration;

writing, as Poe did, this boring world
as I’d have it, not as it is;

trusting that mere words

will eventually make all things right
if I never surrender

to the rampant stupidity of humanity;

that I may be reasonably readable in my art
and strangely happy within
for as long as I have breath in my lungs

and ink in my pen

Amen.

My apologies to Reinhold Niebuhr who wrote the Serenity Prayer in 1943.
Couldn't help myself.
