Love LiesA Poem by Nobody.Love lies. We were
promised: ! kisses as familiar as waterlogged fingertips
on sunburned cheeks ! moments
as exciting as hot breath on tender thighs ! whole
nights of sex like dragons wrestling down the side of a cliff ! sore
mornings of feathery cuddles and tandem shower dances ! songs
that roll from honest teary eyes until the life-drums cease !
harmonized laughter Everafter We got: !
unpayable bills lying like tombstones on the eerie kitchen table !
meaningless conversations about why we’re not okay, and what okay is ! sex-less
nights of tired bodies lying too close not to feel the rejection ! mornings
of dog s**t and cereal disputes and news of a world collapsing !
eventually, I got the torn up secondhand couch; you got the tearstained bed ! then
long division that included everything ! severely
severed thoughts ! clearly broken
emotions ! awkward
stares across an awkward world Love lies. We were
promised a shiny sunrise that turned out to be an encroaching forest fire. The burns
always seem fresh. Most days,
I don’t even want to be touched. © 2011 Nobody.Reviews
