great

great

A Poem by Nobody.

5 bottles: cherry cough syrup

          campfires a gasoline coyote

                              into midnight pith.

buses come and go like silver dreams.

enough benched gum to sculpt Time.

everything lies naked on the moonlit platform.

3 toothed man:     yellowed beard

offers me the crumbs of his heart for a half-smoke.

I’ll never smile at you again.

teeth have become too sharp

          to unsheathe.

smoke has become too rooted

          to exhale.

                                      no longer clean.

                             no longer gentle.

                   snake pit assimilation’s a b***h.

I’ll send a cheesy postcard

when I get There.

                             everything’s going great.
