Not a Sexual Poem
I gently spread the outer plates with my quivering forefinger and thumb. Then, I generously lube the opening. I slide the hard shaft
of the old metering rod in and out to spread the lubricant deep into the ready hole.
It is important to give the step up springs attention as well. They are happier
wet than dry. I undo the fasteners on the choke cam, and pull it aside. At this
point I’m too excited to take the time for full removal. I slide the new rod in
until it is as deep as it will go. Then, move it in and out. The grease warms
with the friction, and, now, if I push with a bit more force, the rod will go
even deeper. On the final triumphant thrust, some liquid may shoot up from the
hole. It is important to protect your face. I gently put the outer folds back
into place, pop the key in the ignition, and take her for a high-speed ride around
the block. If the procedure is done correctly, you will have a bit of leakage
on the first hard run. This is nothing to worry about. Just use an old towel to
wipe it away. The next time you climb inside of her, she should purr like a
well-fed kitten.
