I've Been Tampered With

I've Been Tampered With

A Poem by Nobody.

Night fell like a baby grand piano from a 12th story rooftop.

Never heard the gunshot. But, the aftermath was grisly.

Stood in the off-white doorway laughing at passing planets.

Beautiful bodies bounding through magical light. Bad haircuts,

chipped teeth, faded souls on tribal procession. Shattered everything

they contacted. Left no evidence. Not even a hollow echo.

Drank a beer with God on the front porch. We giggled like mischievous kids trading obvious lies. It all became clear. Then, impossible to understand. Every whispered moment was a majestic hope: Hidden for eternities, beheld for an instant, lost forever, with no true chance at return. Just scars and stains.

Blue fire that once defined me has flickered and dwindled to a midnight cinder. No longer dangerous, I rely on colorful threats. And, when this temple caves in, I’ll become the sweet treasure beneath the rotten rubble: Found over and over. Never truly comprehended. Bought and sold like an eternal golden w***e.

Come on in, and we’ll share our most precious agonies over tea and tears. I have many stories; little proof. Don’t mind the exploding stars in my eyes, or the spider web cracks in my outlook. They are not of my own doing.

Like all sacred things,

I’ve been tampered with.

Classic R.G. And I like the format, reads really well this way. At the top, shouldn't it be "Night fell like a baby grand piano..." ? picky I know, but I stumbled there.... lol

I always marvel at how you so effortlessly handle scope, vast scope in your writing. But then you always bring it intimately home again.
Nice piece.

like a kick in the gut...reminding me of how damaged we are all, without having the slightest hint why...you've hatched a lovely pearl with this one

I love the idea of night falling like a baby grand. This write is very visual in an almost filmic way. I could film this. Its also very musical and not just the distorded clamour of the piano falling, (and I think of everything there from Laurel & Hardy to REM) That is the crux of the piece it takes pictures from everywhere and fits them together seamlessly. I really like it. I'm going to be picky like Roake now and say should it not be grisly not grizzly. Although I don't know.
