The Cliche Love Poem

The Cliche Love Poem

A Poem by SerbiaTakesCtrl
"

All that is the traditional, cliche romance in a simple rhymed and contructed poem. This was my second poem I wrote when I began writing, and I still cackle when I read it.

"

It started somewhere long from here

On a playground small in size

Not enough room for the two of us

So we made each other cry

In school we started fights in class

I hoped to kick you down

But still instead you made more friends

While I just stood around

The teacher loved you more than I

I hated you more still

I tried to get trouble-caught

Your victory my pill

I grumbled at your easy grades

While I worked all night for mine

Your smile beamed a hefty punch

But got brighter all the time

And when I started wearing skirts

And you began to look at girls

And I began to look at boys

And putting up my hair in curls

We sat in distant corners

In the same Biology class

You laughed amongst the crew of guys

While I played with beaker glass

Too busy looking at the board

I missed your warming smiles

That while focused deeply onto me

Lasted only for a while

You started dating pretty girls

With blushing cheeks of rouge

And word spread around of your fun times

A systematic fuse

But still an empty longing throbbed

And little did I know

Your heart sped up a little too quick

Whenever I would show

My standards were high

And yours, well, they were there

I had priorities

And you hadn’t a care

But when I met you on the stairs

Outside my dorm with that heated grin

With a single piece of paper wrote

I waited coolly for your begin

You said,

‘I’ve pulled your hair, you’ve punched my face

I teased and you spat back

I think this little thing we have

Is so much more than that

‘Cause every time I saw a girl

I looked for you inside

And when I couldn’t find you there

I left them far behind

We’ve known each other for so long

But I think I always knew

Despite what happens after this

I know that I love you’

The frown that chiseled down my lips

It twitched but didn’t move

I waited for a moment passed

Before I said to you,

‘I have only one thing to say to that

Although it might be rough’

My frown, it softened to a smile,

‘It took you long enough’

It's very simple, but that's because it was only my second attempt at writing from 9 years ago. I love it anyway, so no flames.
