I Forget

I Forget

A Poem by Scarlet Opal

I forget Alcoholism 101:
The sober life teaches us to hide
the truths that are brutal.
Then,
the alcoholic speaks it out...
harshly.

The alcoholic doesn't perceive the pain.
He's impulsive, bawdy, unnecessarily honest.
We forgive him and excuse him
because he is only drunk, it will pass.

I forget how pain is always picked up:
The drunken life taught him to deny
the ones who are sincere.
Especially,
the one who is foolish enough
to love him.
