Embers

Embers

A Poem by Senu Jayasinghe
"

It's about whatever comes to your mind when you read this.

"
I've got new found hatred for fireworks
All pretty colours and pomp
Gone in the blink of an eye
Never to get close lest you get hurt
Unlike the log fire
Hard work to build up, I know...
But close by to keep you all toasty warm
Chasing away the shadows
Keeping away the predators.
And listening to all your woes and joys alike
It'll burn for hours and hours
Leaving behind embers under the ash
burning for hours more that you can rekindle
Envelope you in it's warm glow
So you can enjoy the stars.

Fireworks - such a waste of money! But - on a warm and peaceful night, sit and watch the heavens instead. The sky is a stage with flickering appearances. Stars come and go perhaps because of passing clouds or how weather intrudes without a care in the outer world. This and that dives or travels across the night as drunk on something sent from space probe Earth to .. somewhere. Miles and miles, years and years ago announce themselves with such radiance that would probably take 'roman candles' by the billions to speckle space! Your wonderfully laid poem has inspired other thoughts which is what words are supposed to do. Many thanks for sharing and inspiring. As to log fires.. nothing better, they give as much as they can with help and attendance for as long as needed!

A warm, good look of the log fires which kindle and rekindle many things romantic.

Thank you!
I do enjoy fireworks but a fire is great for sitting outside on a cool night enjoying the stars and conversation. It keeps you warm and the amber glow helps the mood to be mellow and relaxed

Exactly what I meant!
Actually, I am tired of fireworks...been to see them too many years.... I do prefer an open fire pit outside under the smile of the moon...an open fire is cozy and gives warmth to our frigid bodies...it it truly romantic and it lasts for hours...with a little strum of the guitar, it can be a very fanciful evening....
lovely write
