Chapter 2; Boys, Boys, Boys (part 1)

A Chapter by Morning Bliss
"

First night of summer, and already things seem to head toward Drama. How will Dolly's fun night go?

"

"Dana! What the hell was that all about?" I hissed inbetween my teeth as I flickered my eyes over my shoulder. My senses were so high with anxiousness, I swear I was going to have a panic attack, right then and there on the side walk.
"Oh Dolly, don't spaz out on me. It was just that my boyf-" she said before Dana held her tongue at the last part.
I stared in disbelief at Dana for a good minute before I got into Mommy-mode.
"Are you crazy, Dana! That guy that you were talking to was your...your...boyfriend?" I asked, my tone getting smaller and smaller till the last word. I couldn't believe it. My red-headed wild child of a best friend, was dating a greaser! A greaser that runs with Jimmy no less! I bit my finger nails adsent-mindedly as I waited for Dana to confess.
From the way she was looking around, I'd guess I hit the dot pretty good.
"Oh Dana, why? He's a greaser! Your momma's gonna kill you if she finds out..." I whinned slightly as I frowned with dismay probably written all over my head.
Dana, who was now staring at me with guilt, sighed. "Dolly, I couldn't help it... I met him at the drive in movies with my sister last week and we kinda just...clicked. You know?" said the red-head with a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"No, Dana. I don't know how you could fall for a guy like him that hangs with a stupid, annoying, most foolish and self-centered guy like Fabian Jimmy Carter!" I answered through clutched teeth as my mind went back to the incedent that had happened 15 minutes ago. "I just can't support this, Dana. He's too,too...wrong for you. And what's worse is that you didn't tell me..." I added as I stared at the cement side walk that we were walking on.
"I only didn't tell you because I knew this would be exactly how you'd react, Dolly!" snapped Dana. She then started to pick up the pace like she always did when she was getting pissed. I just let my mouth hang open.
"But Dana, I-"I began before Dana cut me off.
"No, don't start with me, Dolly. Get it through to your pretty little head that not everyone's the same. Roger is a great guy that just happens to hang with Jimmy, okay? That doesn't make him a bad guy. Stupid, but not bad. And I, for one, like a stupid guy that isn't like the rest of the jerks in my life!" she shouted at me. Her face was flushed and her eyes were a fury green so deep with angry and... hurt.
"I'll see you at the drive in. Tell Darcy I'm bring a friend. And the next time we see, Dolly, it'd better be to talk about what movie we're watching and not about this," she said in a more calm but harsh tone.
I just swallowed and nodded wordlessly.
Pretty soon, she turned the corner toward her house on the east side of Burmington and dissipeared.
So, there I was, standing like an idiot feeling like a bad friend for hurting her best friend. Dana was right, I was right. I was being a jerk. But, I wasn't trying to be. My real intention was to look out for Dana. But, as I had seen her just now, she could do that all to well on her own...

When I had gotten home a couple minutes later after that, I was sure today was going to be a bad day for the beginning of summer. I tried not to see it as an omen, but my feelings were to hurt to hope for much. That is, until, I stepped through my house's front screen door.
"Momma, I'm home," I said out load as I took off my shoes and rested my school bag on the side of the door. "Momma?" I called out again when she didn't respond like she normally did. Confused, I looked in the living room and saw that no one was there. Suddenly, as I got near the kitchen, the smell of strawberries hit me hard. "Momma..." I said softly as I entered the kitchen and saw that she was preparing her very famous strawberry pie. This was something that never happened unless....
"Conner's coming home?" I asked in astonishment.
"Got the later this morning. He just finished he military training and he's coming home before they send him off!" said my petite little momma as she rolled some dough on he counter top. She stopped suddenly and smiled up at me with tears of joy harboring near her pale blue eyes. "Dolly, my boy...he's...he's coming home to his momma..." said my momma with a tear slidding down her soft cheek.
I could feel my own tears build up and I rushed over to my pie making momma with an embrace. "Conner's coming home, Momma! He's really coming home!" I repeated over and over again, as if to make it clear to everyone that my big brother, Conner Williams, was coming home soon from his military training in Ohio.
"I know dear, I know..." she said like a broken record as I said the good news over and over again...

Still flying high from the news, I made my way to the bathroom one more time after 30 times to check my make up. "Okay, everything seems good," I said to my reflection as I tilted my head from left to right. Suddenly, my very own words struck me and the reflection smiled back at me. "Yeah, everthing seems good..." I repeated as I stared into the eyes of the girl in the mirror. She seemed so happy and beautiful. Her full lips smiled with charm. Her bright honey brown eyes radiated with hidden joy and something....sad? I stared hard and could see something was wrong with her eyes, not physically, but emotionally. I sighed and made a confused look. How odd...
"Dolly, Darcy's here!" I heard my mom's voice at my door.
"Oh, okay!" I cried out as I stepped out of the bathroom with one last look at the girl with strange eyes.
"Hey Dolly! Ohhh! Cute skirt!" commented Darcy as I met her in my living room with my momma. "Rose pink looks good on you," she added with a wink.
"Thanks," I said to Darcy with a blush creeping in on my face. "So, we heading out or what?" I asked her. She popped u instantly and was rushing to my side. "Okay! Bye Mrs. Williams. Its good to hear that Conner's commin' back," she said to my momma with a warm smile. She then turned that smile to me.
"Well, bye Momma. I'll be back before 11:00," I said to her as I dashed out the door with Darcy clinging to my hand. At my house's drive way was A nice long cherry red impala. In the driver's seat was Clerk, with Freddy and Bobby in the back. I couldn't help but force a smile at the thought of having to sit in the back with just those two.
And like I had feared, I did end up sitting in between the two. Darcy, who was to busy laughing up a storm at every word Clerk said, didn't happen to notice my disconfort. Freddy, however, was notice everthing but my feelings. And Bobby? He just looked really off.
""So, uh, Dolly? You usually this quiet?" asked Freddy as he placed an arm over my shoulder. He smelled of tabacco and his hair was really greasy, and not in the good way either. "Or are you just shy?" he added to his question as he got closer to my face. He had a pretty face, but his eyebrows were to close to combining, it through off the whole cuteness.
"Uh, no. I'm just bottling it all up till we get there... Oh look! We're here!" I said with relief as Clerk drove his car into the drive-in. This gave me the perfect chance to shrug off Freddy's arm politly.
Pretty soon, we were in and parked. All of us got out to strech. Well, I just got out to get away from Freddy.
