The Priest, my preacherA Poem by Jake BruntonThe old preacher shares his dying complaints.
Hey boy, I see you staring at me
You think you're smart with your jokes So clever! You know you're words, think you've grown up fast, eh? Oh, I'm the infallible opinion, I'm the perfect vision. I'm the holier than now ideal, the cantankerous appeal. I'm the aged and disintegrating. You dare strike me with stones for jubilant pleasures? "Thou shall not" Ah. Dying street light with the snow reflection Your dripping carcass is in the refraction This perfect community leader committed the crime I'll be in Heaven in no time. My ultimate goal is of that on the edge; The deep blistering breeze to trench the hedge; Throw my book of songs through the stained glass; My ultimate goal is to go out of this world in hopes; hopes of destroying chance and faith for youth. Oh, I'm the infallible preacher, I'm the perfect voice. I'm the devilishly sinful man, the vicious remorse. I'm the near-dead and gone. You dare not let me enter within your forbidden bounds of love? "Thou shall!" Ah.
