'A long path swallowed by clouds of fog descended from the sky. Black painted mountains multiply.'
Your words are painted with extraordinary care, emotions clear - how life can and often is true. But.. but you have hope nearby, that is gently and openly at hand. Plus, fine meter included!

your path in life may be obstructed by darkness real, or emotional, but I think that many of us go through these moods...yet I see light as well, which shows me there is hope and that the path continues in the right direction.....your writing is excellent and your chosen words reflect these moods...Thank you for sharing
Warmly, B

The "clouds of fog" in line one, may well symbolise uncertainty as to one's way ahead.
The "black" of those mountains is significant, because it's a colour with negative connotations in this context. And, the mountains multiplying; represent that multiplication of obstacles during life's journey.
"Faces of people fading from time", is not quite so easy to interpret here. It may be representing deceased people from one's life (so thus faded away from existence from our mortal perspective), or simply those who we encounter briefly; and then lose to the passage of time?
Despite the cynical lines, this poem certainly ends upon a high note. Not only, does the writer see new hope, accompanying each sunrise; but also acknowledges that life's journey is ongoing. Indeed, many variables in life; really are out of our hands. And, the process of learning during life's journey; is ongoing for sure.

As you said: Many variables in life are out of our hands and some are determined by the choices we make.
