War, Jolly Old War

War, Jolly Old War

Invasions come to call
Winters so appalled by what we’ve done,
I know the air is red
Like my eyes and like my bed, but
The job is still not done

Certain of the ships
Sunken in your lips,
I know the air is red
Like the war was when I said
The job is still not done

Karma’s not so kind
When you bet on it to find
Everything intact, and I
Strum the song so lovely
But the words can’t leave my mind

Silent are the waves
They crash and crash on me
So I crash right back on them,
So silent I watch them watch me
Let them live while the words are free

The wreckage swirls below
The ocean I drowned into, where
Aristocracy floats
Harbors in your lips, for boats
Of my music, all of my music

I’ll sail to you this love
If the sails have strength enough
For this last exodus of will,
Pain in the charge uphill
So the war begins and ends in love
