My Own Prison

My Own Prison

A Poem by Sel

Tap tap tapping on the glass
Watching while others pass
Stuck
Imprisoned
Ignored

For this prison that holds me stretches to the sky
Just listening as time passes me by
Prints of my hand streaking on it's coating
Longing for emotional human interaction
Although it never seems like floating
Hunting for passion

This metaphorical prison I created myself
A defense mechanism gone terribly wrong
And now all I do is long
For these four walls to fall

Maybe one day I will achieve face to face vulnerability
But for the time being my words visually will tell the tale

Yes. Drink plenty of water. Filter it hot through coffee grounds and it will remove the impurities that give it that clear color. I hear Juan Valdez calling. I'll be peering out into the dark night looking for your light on the poetic horizon. I enjoyed the read. If I knew where your cell was I'd bring by chocolate bars and good novel. We're all prisoners trapped inside these hard warm bars. They call them ribs and the heart longs to escape. But there's no place to go. I found out not too long ago that no matter where you go, there you are and the whole jail is a bouncing blue watery ball falling through the space-time continuum. It's my world too. But welcome aboard.

Tom Petty sang, "I can't hold out forever, even walls fall down." I think many of us builds walls around ourselves to deflect those things that we fear when if we would just step outside, we would see the world is as fearful as we are. Very cool.

John said it best. What we build up we can also tear down.
A relatable piece of writing, Sel

Except for those immured in places like San Quentin, most of our prisons are self created. The penultimate verse admits as much. And what we create, we can destroy.
