TettersA Story by RivaxorusThere you have it The winters here are cold, and there's no way to avoid them. I never meant this to be a bad thing however, the snow was great and it gave young tamers the chance to train with their dragons out of school. The town of Gremace was at peace during the winter, with our dragons to take care of the king was more worried about other countries rather than our own. So it left everyone else to live our own lives as we did. I was the kid in the corner not talking to anyone. Being a handler of two young wyverns was enough. They would like to perch themselves on my shoulders watching the snow as I did. The field was where most of the high school teenagers gathered. Ages ranging from fourteen to twenty one years old they were those in training to control their dragons. It was covered, the full twelve yards, in white snow. Besides for the benches on the edge's and the naked tree's that called out in the bitter cold. I sat on the left side of the field on a bench by myself, watching the others considering they all hated me all things considered. "Hey Broker, eat a snowball." One of my wyverns the larger gray one made a screech at the eighteen year old boy who threw a snowball only for it to burst into flames. Broker, that was a nickname I heard at least twice a day. It meant an odd tamer, out of the usual norm of one dragon that chose a tamer. I had two, which not only made me an outcast among students but the king and queen along with teachers weren't entire fans of it either. They feared it mainly, once these two dragons grew to adults I'd be seen as a threat unless I swore loyalty to military or some bullshit like that. My real name is Tetters Rant, a stupid name for sure, specially for a boy my age of seventeen years old. Home was a far better place than here though, my parents were pretty welcoming. I always felt at ease when I was at home, but it'd break their hearts if I told them what went on during my time on the outside. So I kept it a secret for all the reason to keep them happy. So I was the broker of the town, but I was happy with my dragons at least Tally the gray one was bigger than his sister the smaller brown one Yamir. The two were like peas in a pod though you couldn't separate them even if you tried. After the boy gave up, seeing as Tally and Yamir wouldn't let him hurt me, I stood up and gave a sigh watching my breath leave my mouth. The little creatures shifted to me getting up as I moved down the left road towards the cluster of houses that made up my neighborhood. I stopped on the porch though of the last house in the row, the perches on the top where two nests were. My parents dragons rested in there, when they were home at least. Right now they were off doing something else, so it left me to fend for myself. Opening the door, the wood floor gave sweet relief to my feet throwing off my shoes. To the right a few feet ahead was the kitchen and then the living room next to that. Making my way into the carpeted room I planted myself on the couch, Tally jumping onto his perch as Yamir stayed on my back. Giving a short clicking noise, she nuzzled my hair making me smirk at her. I pulled my fingers over her head. "I'll make a snack for us later." I said shutting my eyes for just a few minutes. But before I knew it was in a deep sleep. I woke up to a rude noise that left the kitchen along with screeching, making my body become oddly alert and my heart-rate to raise. For a moment I thought it was my parents, standing up I rubbed my eyes and turned on the light only to see a man rush out of the house with a sack of something. Hearing the small screeching of Tally and Yamir my eyes widened suddenly with the realization that they had been kidnapped. Bursting out through the door, I saw him in the snow and started to chase after him. I nearly slipped on the ice trying to turn the corner as he headed towards the bridge. The water flow was warm and lasted all year round because of the reserves, it was warm because of the water dragons that lived in it. The man stopped at the bridge, bringing me to a hault. "Hey....what do you think your doing." I asked calmly, crouching a bit to seem a bit less threatening. "I'm getting rid of a couple of abominations." The man raised the sack over the bridge. I couldn't see his face in that dark clothing, and the dim lighting of the afternoon. Though as soon as he dropped the sack I took a dive head first into the flowing river. The heat raising to my face as the sting of fast water slapped me in the face. I opened my eyes painfully to see the sack, scooping it up before dragging myself onto the shore. Nearly choking as I set the little wyverns on the snow, breathing heavily as I watched the man run off. Tally stepped forward licking my cheek to check and see if I was alright. "I'm fine, are you okay?" I asked as Yamir gave a small screech in response. I smiled happily, laughing a bit at the two in relief that they were alright. These dragons meant the world to me if anything at all. And they definitely enjoyed my company by their attitude. After a few minutes I finally stood to my feet, grabbing the little wyverns and heading home. That called for locking the front door this time and taking a shower, I told Yamir and Tally to hide in my room if anything like that happened again. After taking a shower I came out into the living room to see my mom and dad eating dinner. "Oh hey sport, come sit down for dinner." My dad said as I smiled at him, sitting on the couch before grabbing the plate of chicken. Chowing down, I gave a small sigh and rested my hand on my knee after I was done. Looking at my parents with their smiling faces, sometimes it made me so angry to see how happy they were being accepted by society. I kept wondering when the day would come that I'd be able to do the same. I gave a sigh before doing the dishes, my parents went to bed early as per usual. Though all the same it made sense since they were out nearly all day and half the night. The next morning, Yamir hopped on my chest to wake me up she licked my face as I pushed the little wyvern off. "What is it?" I asked, knowing they didn't usually act like this, as Tally purred at the window, I made the effort to pull back the blinds and see a girl my age standing at the door. A black four legged dragon curled around her shoulders. I mummbled to myself before getting up and placing some pants on my legs to answer the door. Opening the door I looked at the long brown haired girl who looked a bit nervous. Not to mention cold as well, I sighed. "Hello." I stated, it wasn't the kindest of greetings but it got her to look at me with her green eyes. "Umm....hello. You're Tetters right?" She asked. Well, it wasn't everyday I got called by my real name by someone who wasn't my parents. I shifted at the door, Yamir climbing onto my shoulder looking curiously at the four legged dragon on her shoulders. "Yes....can I help you?" I asked a bit more nicely. "I wanted to apologize my brother threw your dragons into the river last night. I tried to stop him from going but, he went anyway." She said. A sudden flash of anger filled me, but I made it subside sighing. I was thankful she had the curtosy to apologize, but she wasn't the one who should have been apologizing, she shouldn't feel sorry for something her siblings did. "It's nothing, you aren't the one who should be apologizing. What's your name?" I asked crossing my arms as Tally glided over to my left shoulder now having the two on my body, it felt complete again. She smiled nervously at the dragons seemingly happy that they were there rather than disgusted. "Oh umm, yes, my name's Arrow Quelt." She paused for a moment moving her hands around. "I..I-uh really like your dragons. What are their names?" she asked making my eyes widen slightly. "You aren't afraid of them? Or me for that matter?" I asked, not being able to help myself. She looked at me curiously, tilting her head to one side as her dragon moved to the top of her head. "Why would I be, I think you having two dragons is amazing, awesome even. This is Jelly, he's my dragon." The tamer seemed so sincere, and serious about her claim. It made me smile and chuckle slightly. "Yamir is the smaller one, and he's Tally." I said, as Tally hopped to the girls shoulder giving a small nuzzle and then screeching a small tone to Jelly who purred in his amusement by the looks of it. I stopped for a moment, "Was that...all you needed?" I asked. She smiled at me. "Umm...one more thing." She pulled out a small green medallian. And handed it to me, I took it blinking a bit. "Let's hang out tomorrow, kay. I'll wait for you in the field." Before I could protest the girl ran off, Yamir gliding back to my shoulder. I smiled for a moment and laughed. Funny how things played out. Maybe things wouldn't turn out so bad.
