Once in a lifetime

Once in a lifetime

A Poem by Joan Davis

Sleepless nights have me counting the days lost
Reasoning with the shadows long since passed
A broken heart it turns out was the cost
Of a doomed love we both knew would not last

All the judgement we saw in their eyes then
Could have us painted as killers or thieves
Like it was wrong for you to love me when
The years between us was all they would see

Nothing blooms in the frost of December
Gray won't give way to more colors till
May
Endless nights I will keep to remember
My favorite what if you will always stay

We will always be unfinished business
A story longing for closure someday

I like the structure because it give your piece a natural prose flow. Being outside of metered form, it is perfectly fine, this is the poetic rule. This poem has longing and passion, nice job!
