Rain Barrel Bottom.

Rain Barrel Bottom.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton
"

Dispair. Depression

"
The sun never reaches
Rain Barrel Bottom
Dark is reflected
Look in and see
A cold, cold nothing

Nor does it reach
The hole beneath the hedge
A hole so complete
Street sounds fade
Distant and dark
Secure from light
Like Rain Barrel Bottom

One can curl here
Beneath the hedge
Looking down on ones life
A cold, cold nothing
Where the sun never reaches
Dark cannot fade
In Rain Barrel Bottom.

I really appreciate the compressed syntax and alliteration in this work. It reads with great rhythm that propels all the way to the end. Congrats

Well written, great descriptions of that dark place that most of not all have or will have in our life. We must remember we can breathe at the bottom of the barrel and it’s up to us to float and rise above the darkness which admittedly is difficult but it can be done especially if we take the hand offered. In this day and age depression is at an all time high and we need to reach out a hand. I think you did an excellent job bringing to light a very real societal issue bravo

Thank you Patricia for your very nice words.
Depression flows through this one. The bottom of the barrel has always been a symbol for lack, but depression is a maw of hopelessness. Indeed, darkness cannot fade there. I used to work with people diagnosed with depression, and they were always to be considered as suicide risks.

Mel, your comment is very welcome. T
Loved reading this one. Why? Because it was so artistically expressive and surreal. I could taste the message here. Well done.

Thanks a lot cheyenne. that's a welcome comment.
I love the meter on this piece,” rain barrel bottom” has such a thud thud thud to it. It reminds me of that line from Shakespeare, Hamlet maybe, “Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,” the drudgery of life so eloquently laid out.

A good description of how depression can make us feel. In the dark and alone. Sadly many suffer from it. Nicely conveyed Bryan. Good Thursday morning to you.
