Broken Butterfly.

Broken Butterfly.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton

On the pavement amid the litter
Soon to be swept into the past
The colour red amid the dark and grey

A little piece of colour frittered
Nondescript, among the trash
Waiting to be finally cleared away

Not one in a million would guess
What it was before it passed
Its special beauty that is now defaced

There it lies, ripped, among the mess
torn to pieces near the grass
And reduced to what is just a trace

It may have been a piece of silk
Perhaps a toffee wrapper
Or maybe one of nature's treasures

Anything colourful of that ilk
That someone may term 'dapper'
That was beautiful way beyond measure

There was a time it was adored
And met with gasps of wonder
All appreciative hearts would take it in

But some would drag it to the floor
With a net and keep it under
Glass for safety. Held there by a pin

It is sad how we want to cage the beautiful things, like the butterfly. I liked your honest thoughts Bryan. Would be a better world, if we could be kind to nature. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry. I did enjoy this one.
