Just Between You And MeA Poem by Bryan Sefton
The rabbits wouldn't thank me if I told you all their secrets
So if I tell you and they find out just say the swallows leaked it They'll believe you for you see them always rushing here and there Tittle tattling, calling someone, speaking rumours on the air Nor do they care who hears it or who they tell it to They've such loose tongues, not like me, that's why I'm only telling you. The pheasants wouldn't thank me if I told you where they're nested So if I tell you and they find out just tell them that you guessed it They'll believe you, they're so stupid, they're the silliest of birds All that gaudy plumage really makes them look absurd Hear the grouse among the heather. They will gossip till they're blue They've such loose tongues, not Like me, that's why I'm only telling you There's a field mouse in the thick tall grass, a hedgehog in the bushes And at the base of yonder hill you'll find a nest of thrush's A badgers sett's beneath that tree, an otters holt beside the stream (I told him only yesterday where he could find a bream) But learn to keep your secrets, don't let your mouth run free If you must tell someone then I hope you'll be only telling me © 2022 Bryan Sefton |
