To us.

To us.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton

The sun hung around that golden day
The breeze sighed softly on his way
Then paused behind a hawthorne hedge
To spy on us

The swarming hive paused its gyre
Arranged itself, a raging fire
Hovering as it watched and
Kept an eye on us

We couldn't bring ourselves to part
Neither body nor our eager heart
Yet all of nature stopped mid stride
And sighed for us

The moon rose, looked at us, and beamed
The whole world was, to us, a dream
He watched us all that night and then
He died for us

But all of that is in the past
It seems it was too good to last
For the feelings that we took on trust
Had lied to us

The story of that golden day
Is writ to amuse a world at play
These scribbled words, recalled and
Put aside for us
