Somone, something.

Somone, something.

A Poem by Bryan Sefton
"

Memories whilst walking through the park on a dark night.

"

A silent roundabout turning in an empty park
Chases yesterday's shadows through the windy dark
Their footsteps are but the rustle of dried out leaves
'Catch me! Catch me if you can!'
Was that the wind?
'Catch me if you can!'
I thought I heard someone call across the park
Then someone, something, touched me in the dark

Sand flows into the footprint of a child
As if a foot had but recent stood there
The edges crumble and begin to break
And a ghostly giggle, skittering through the air
Running through the bushes and the trees
Fades to become a dog's far distant bark
But someone, something, touched me in the dark

The swings chains rattle as if someone took a seat
I hear a scream come from the skelter slide
My dog comes whimpering at my feet
As if to say 'master! Something in the darkness hides!'

Yes, something in the darkness hides
It is the shadows of my children three
Laughing, giggling, playing in the past
Calling 'come and play!' to children yet to be
Though memories may seem to fade away
On occasions, such as this, a voice calls 'hark!'
And someone, something, touches in the dark

There is an eerie ambience in this poem which is very well penned. You bring great imagery to the reader and reminders of our chikdren and the excitement of the swing park so many years before. Such a pleasant nostalgic read. Thank you.

Lately I've realised that comments are setting me up with my poetry and knocking me down with my team. It's a cruel world this writing game. Thank you for your comments, I think.

Gotta say Bryan your poetry is a lot better than your team :)
Enjoyed this poem, have been there, felt those emotions and have wished myself back to simpler years
