Commuting To The Night Shift (part 1)A Chapter by AzizaKija is on her way to work when she gets disrupted by an interdimensional warlord with a strange name. *Severe Language warning*Kija sat her living room sofa, holding a hand mirror and combing out her shoulder length hair. She was making sure her long bangs were in place. The news played on the television. Her attention gradually turned toward to it when the daily commute report came on. “At least the subway is running on time.” She grumbled aloud to herself as she picked up the remote and turned off the television. She got up and checked her jean pocket for subway pass, and then she readjusted her pink t-shirt. She lingered in the middle of the living room, just looking at her backpack for a few minutes, regretting leaving her comfortable position. She forced herself to pick up her backpack and trudged toward the door. She was groggy, annoyed and in need of rest. “Punctuality is important.” She grimaced.
As she reached out to touch the cold door knob, her head began to the throb. Her senses awakened. Suddenly like out of a nightmare, the sky turned red and the clouds were black as charcoal, and mustard colored mist churned through the streets. Fireballs rained from the heavens and burst her windows. Pieces of glass flew out toward her and scattered throughout the apartment like tiny little diamonds. Adrenaline shot through her veins and the time from her prospective started to slow down. Without any hesitation, she ducked out of the way as fire engulfed the apartment. Soon the peaceful home resembled hell. When the barrage of fireballs stopped, Kija skillfully moved toward the front door, avoiding the fire and rubble. As she opened the door, the smoke cleared and she could make out a figure.
It was the damn Ice Cream Man. He was an intimating dark lord, clad in cobalt black armor. His red head was exposed, sporting a midnight black goatee and long mane with flowed like smoke from dry ice. He opened his mouth to speak, and long green forked tongue seeps out of his fanged mouth. “Welcome me to…”
She immediately slapped him. "Stop it! What did I tell you about invading my dimension when I have to go to work?"
He slumped back defeated and then disappeared. The world returned back to its normal state. All the previous damage to the apartment erased. "F*****g guy. This b***h always wants to invade when I got s**t to do."
Kija begrudgingly readjusted her backpack, doing a quick check to see if all her essentials for the work were still okay. She sighed as she ran down the stairs to exit the building, muttering about how late she was going to be. ‘He also never stops time when he does his nonsense.’
As she closed the front door, she was greeted by one of the neighborhood gentlemen. "Damn b***h, you got some fine a*s t*****s. What is your name?"
For a few seconds, she just stared at the man with as much malice as she could muster. ‘Murphy’s Law and Harlem, what a prefect match.’
She didn’t turn her back to the cat caller as she locked the front door. She really didn’t want to give him an extra show by letting him stare at her backside. She hustled down the stoop and avoided his gaze. Thankfully he didn’t advance on her, but he did linger on the sidewalk giving her an unwelcome creepy stare. He just hoped that something positive would happen. Kija just jogged away in the direction of the subway station.
When she was a good enough distance away from the man, she slowed her jog to a quick walk, giving her a chance to not be rude and quickly greet her neighbor’s on her way to the subway stop. As she walked past the deli, she was a little remorseful at she could not stop in, because of the time wasted with the Ice Cream Man.
She turned the corner and arrived at the green MTA staircase. She ran down the stairs as she heard the train coming, pulling her pass out of her pocket and swiped her fare. She walked through the turnstile and ran on the platform, stopped at the spot where the least amount of commuters was possibly at. She smiled as the train arrived and the car revealed some seats available. The doors opened and she walked in and took her seat. She unhooked her backpack and rested it on the floor in-between her feet.
She sunk into her seat and thought about her actions from earlier with the Ice Cream Man. After a year of harassment, it was the first time she lost her cool and struck him. Even when he decided that it would be wise to wake her by leaving a sentient, screaming mound of pus in her bed, defecating on her sheets. She had to buy a new mattress and the smell never left her person for 20 days, but she still was able to usher him out by using her words. Inflammatory words, but words nonetheless.
“Oh f**k him. The Ice Cream Man is a f****t with a stupid name.” She grumbled underneath her breathe, so other passengers would not perceive that she was a lunatic.
A few minutes before the train reacted the next stop, reality shifted back to the fiery hell again. The underground subway started to look like fiery catacombs, and chunks of ash pelted the windows. As the normal conscious commuters passed through the dimensional tear, their bodies disappeared and their astral bodies faded away moments later. The sleeping passengers’ astral forms were suddenly alerted to anarchy and they ran around screaming in an in-sync night terror. Kija started to chant a spell so that helped the unfortunate dreamers’ souls met up with their physical bodies and disappeared out of this unsettling reality.
At the corner of her eyes, she saw a silhouette of herself was waving back at her. Kija looked back at her as the copy faded back with other passengers. ‘I am not going to have a fun time when I get back, will I?’
The train roared down the rails, and exploded out of the hell mouth into an open battlefield where an almost infinite legion was wanting for her miles away. Kija rubbed her temples, easing the incoming pain. "Well, I guess he’s upset at me." She grumbled as she rolled her eyes, as she created a rift and pulled a sword out of it. © 2014 AzizaAuthor's Note
