I Can't Afford to Lose Nothing

I Can't Afford to Lose Nothing

A Poem by SeekingMeaning

It's easier to love you when you're a thousand miles away;

It's easier to confess my feelings when it is all in my head.

Real love means touching--

It's the glances and skin brushing skin.

Love is sharing hobbies and giving time,

Using patience and later a bed.

A relationship is something solid, and we are only air.

I'd like all the weight and the mess,

A me-and-you standing with the world's couples.

But an unexpected benefit of keeping silent

Is never knowing what you think or how you feel.

And honestly,

I couldn't handle your look of discomfort,

Your shift away from me,

Or the way everything would become stilted and wrong.

There's too much to lose,

Even though I have nothing.

I’ve pushed away too many people in my life

I’ve set a fire to all the good things that come inside

I’ll lay down the matches and blow out the candle

Cause tonight I’m making myself vulnerable

Such prophetic words, wonderfully told. The last two lines sum it all up perfectly.
