Chapter 2

Entry 31: It’s been a few days since I last wrote, but finding someone who is also trying to find you is harder than one thinks. Maybe Dean really thinks I am dead. Maybe he gave up on looking for me. From his efforts he hasn’t found me, but I was always three steps ahead of him, and sometimes just above his head… The only thing that really scares me is that he has stopped praying…that could mean so many things.

Entry 32: I haven’t seen the black haired man since the night he attacked. I’m really starting to worry. Still Dean has yet to pray to me and I am scared. I prayed to my Father and I asked him simply to keep Dean alive and safe. If He was to take anyone, it should be me. At least God could find something to with a fallen angel, than a human that has much unfinished business.

Entry 33: I never really got around to asking Dean if he had dreams. I always wanted to, but I believe he would give me some sort of witty comment like, “To have a beer in my hand”, or something of that nature. I think deep down Dean just wants this to be over the whole “world of war” thing where all of us can be happy. He would want Sam to find some girl that “lit up his world” like Jess, Dean has said. He would also want to be able to live somewhere warm. Not warm like purgatory and all of its infested smell, but nice. If we get out of here I bet he would want to go to Russia for a quick cool down…maybe I will fly him there. I hope he isn’t scared of flying. I know angels are not supposed to have dreams and follow orders, but I dream that Dean and Sam are happy in the end. And I will do anything to make that happen.

Entry 34: Tonight I dreamt that Dean was right next to me. He found me lying in a cold and dirty pit. He picked me up and took me to his camp to be cleaned. I was so happy to see him that when I woke up, I was smiling. In that dream, it was like the old days with him. Just like the way we were before we got here. Two men on a never ending journey, but having each other away from the darkness and one step closer to that glorious light, I do miss that.

Entry 35: I think I am getting closer to finding Dean. Near another lake, I saw his boot prints in the mud. I was relieved to see they were fresh. “Good, he is still alive.” I thought, but then I saw more foot prints. I examined the second pair and I could infer that they belonged to man because of the size and depth. Unless I have come across a very large and broad woman, this most certainly belonged to a man. I dismissed the thought and my worry, turning away from the baffling scene.

I then felt a presence behind me but I didn’t hear a sound. I knew something was once again after me. This time I was to be faster and stealthier. I turned around before her knife could reach my back. She threw a punch with her left hand, landing straight into my cheek. I moved back because of the force in her hand as she tried throwing another. I dodged backward and came back with full force for their abdomen.  The knife was coming straight for my neck when she took a blow to the chest. With my other hand I brought them to the tree with their back against it. “Where. Is. MY. Hunter.” I demanded with anger while still trying to catch my breath.”

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” She said.

“You do know! I can blow your low piece of a vessel to pieces right here, right now!”

“Okay! I saw him by here a while ago. He was walking across this ravine with another man. He was a vampire and a good looking one at that.”

And that small comment that could have been so easily ignored was instead headed. It took me to the edge and I ended her life without another word.

___

After I had killed the woman I ran to find Dean. In sense I could feel his presence getting stronger the more I ran. The more I felt his presence the faster I ran. I have missed Dean by my side for so long I could feel him right there next me once again and finally, I stopped running. I heard a low husky voice and it none other belonged to Dean! Yes! It was Dean’s voice, but what was he saying? I crouched down beside a bush hiding myself. I still could not see him, but I knew. I listened in…Dean was praying. Praying! But not to me…but to my Father!

“You know I don’t do this praying thing much, is’ like begging, so I’m only gonna say this once. You better keep that feathered a*s friend okay, because I swear if I don’t find him, it’s gonna be on you! He is the one thing that actually means a whole damn lot to me. ….I even remember the first time we met… I never thought in the end we get this far, but he is a damn good soldier and deserves to be saved just as I do. Either we both go or no one does.”

Dean wants to save me…. I walked away from his voice towards the nearest river I could find and leaned down. I wanted to cry. All that I have put him through and all that I have done to him, he still wants to save me. He wants me by his side too.  I looked down into the river and saw my tears begin to fall down my face. They started to come down more rapidly when I thought more and more about how Dean had said I meant a lot to him. I knew we were close and like family once, but never did I know that are bond was so strong. Why am I still crying? I can’t stop! In all of God’s creations I have not cried once, but now I find myself crying over one of His humans. I picked up the water in the cup of my hands, whipping my face.

I could hear footprints coming towards me. “Cas” The man said. “Cas, is that you?”

It was Dean. “Dean.” I said standing up and staring the ragged man up and down. ‘What has purgatory done to you?’ I thought. He was wearing the same clothes that he had first worn when we entered this hole. They were ripped and torn. He had dried blood dripped on the side of his head and dirt all over his face, well everywhere actually and he had lost much body mass. What was most peculiar about him was that he was holding a sword of some sort I have never seen before. It had a big shaft and was quite sharp by the look of it. Dean looked as if he could wield it with no problem at all.

I probably don’t look any better with growing a beard, but it fathoms me how much this place can change a man in just a certain time span.

“Cas buddy”, he said widening his arms and giving me a hug. I-I didn’t know what to do; I was in such shock that I couldn’t move. As if this simple man could paralyze an angel. I wanted to tell him how much I missed him, how I heard every last word that fell from his lips. And I knew that heart wrenching conversation was coming.

“Hello Dean.”, I said unsure what to say.

“Cas, where did you go? I have been looking for you everywhere. I swear I circled this devil trap at least twice.”

“I know.”, again unsure what to say.

“So where the hell were you?”

“I left.”

“You left? The plan was that we were in this together. And you left me alone to die here!”

“No Dean. I left to save you. The Leviathans are after me, not you. I don’t know what I would do knowing that you died because of my behalf.”

“On your behalf? Do you know how much I….I would kill myself every time to save you Cas, you know that!”

“Dean, I did everything to protect and I always have to save you and Sam.”

“Yeah well, I prayed to you every night!”

“I heard you….every word….”

He stepped closer to me. I didn’t know what he was going to do to me next, either punch me or walk away. But his expression wasn’t anger, it was something else. Something I have only seen in Dean’s eyes a few times. He strode quickly towards me and before I knew it his soft lips were against mine. As fast as the kiss came it went, but it felt different. Different from the time I kissed Ruby, but in a good way. I felt like there was this fire in my lower stomach that I couldn’t get rid of. It made me smile.

“Don’t ever. Leave me…again.” Dean said in the most serious face, holding my forehead next to his.

I let out the smallest whisper I could manage, “Okay.” It sounded like Jimmy Novak’s voice, but somehow it was still belong to me.

Dean pulled away from me. Another man came walking from where Dean had descended to embrace me; he was wearing a white shirt with an over jacket and black pants. He was not from our time. I pulled Dean behind me. No one was going to hurt the one thing I have tried so hard to keep safe for so long. Dean then grabbed my shoulder and stopped me from preparing to attack. “Cas, this is a friend, his name is Benny.”

“He doesn’t look like any friend to me.” I said outraged.

“He has proved to me that he is. And damn it, Cas, you gotta believe me on this one!”

I pulled back my stance and stood straight up, eyeing this so called, “friend”. Dean’s kiss was still coming to my mind. For the time being I had to shut out my confused thoughts and feelings, or whatever they call it.

“So you are the famous Castiel, Dean keeps going on about.” the vampire said. Dean talks about me. “Let me introduced myself. My name is Benny and let me tell you, you got a good hunter over there. He knows everything about anything. Although, he got himself into a predicament when we first met, believe it or not, I saved him. So let’s shake hands and call it even, what do you say?”

“What do I owe you?” I stated.

“You? Nothing, but Dean has a deal to still render. He is going to get us out of here, now that we have found you.”

I went over and shook his hand in an agreement, because I guess that’s what he is accustomed to, but Dean saw me when I turned back. Dean saw the worry in my face, I know he did. I don’t know if I will be able to trust this man, but I can tell that I already do not like him. If it is for Dean, than I guess I will have to tolerate him for the very least. But for now I need to figure out my feelings for this hunter and whether or not I deserve to go with him or stay here in this hell. So for now we will move on looking for what awaits us in the future. As long as I have Dean beside me, I will do anything at any cost to keep him safe.
