The Facebook Revolution

The Facebook Revolution

A Poem by VERONICA

"Join the Facebook revolution!"
Your profile status proclaims.
You can really change the world,
It's just a click away.

The Facebook groups you join
Truly proves some commitment
And the clever blogs you write
Will really make a difference.

So join the Facebook revolution
And you will surely see
How you can stick it to the man
(Sans any precious effort).

Now this is the proposal;
An all-day Facebook sit-in-
Fasting from any life that
May be left in your existence.

This Internet rebellion
Will undoubtedly demonstrate
The millions who care just enough
To sit, doing nothing, all day.

The Facebook Revolution,
Oh, it'll really show them.
It'll show your teachers and your parents
How this generation makes a statement.

It'll show the CEO's,
Who run Facebook and electricity,
The potential of their paychecks
And whom they get it from.

It'll show the rest of the world
The obedience of the masses,
How Facebook is really great
And something else important.

You type, "Facebook Solidarity!"
And hope no one logs off.
For it is the only security in change
That you may ever know.

Don't listen to the critics,
They're idealists all the same.
Their protests and direct action
Only frustrate those in power.

So, why be a committed activist?
And why do all of that,
When Facebook can save the world
And maintain your cooler image?

You believe that under an Obama nation
Government will support the cause,
It’ll listen to the Facebook rebels
And your revolution will succeed.

And when this happens we’ll finally know

What it is that you've so struggled for.

As the type of person who would say "Sarcastic? Me? No...." I've gotta say, this was very well written. This might sound kind of weird, but sometimes sarcasm actually gets a point across better than being direct. You did that very well.

wow, this is sincerely evaluating and opinionated in a way that defines the facts of the cause, truthful.

I love the sarcasm, its really good. Now I much prefer facebook to bebo and I'm on this site because of a friend on facebook and another facebook friend joined when i sent him a message, and there is one more hoping to join this weekend, so for me something good came out of it all.

But the piece itself, was well written. And being honest i clicked on it because of the title i thought oh here we go again another person who sits on writers cafe etc all day contradicting themselves as this site is 'different' ...who has no friends on facebook etc moaning about the site. Which was done here. but a different take on it really.
This verse:So why be a committed activist?

And why do all of that,

When Facebook can save the world

And maintain your cooler image?

I had to laugh. Its so true because ive thought that myself about facebook, saving reefs in the ocean, millimetres of rainforest...bullshit. i try shy away from that causes and things show your support but as you said yourself sitting on ur comp @ facebook will apparently clean up oil spills and save th seals rather than you getting out and doing it yourself. I admire your opinion and your honest feelings about it.

Love the use of sarcasm :) It's good how you can explain something you hate with sarcastic love. (sorry if I didn't explain it right, english is not my first language)

"Fasting from any life that
May be left in your existence" that is my favorite line, without a doubt.

"It'll show the CEO's,
Who run Facebook and your electricity,
The potential of their paychecks
And whom they get it from" um, are you an extreme liberal or something?

Anyhow...
I used to have a facebook, but it got annoying, so I got rid of it. (Do you have/had one yourself?)
The really groups do squat to change the world and get ignored by the administrators.
If u ask me hun, facebook will be just like myspace; you remember a few years back when myspace was like facebook and how no one uses it anymore because they're all switching to facebook? well i think that will be facebook's fate a few years from now, and another site will take over.

Have fun staying off your butt and being a REAL activist :)
