Five Centimeters Per SecondA Poem by Seasick FistInspired by the film of the same name & my own circumstance.Distance is said to make the heart grow fonder, Despite that my heart can’t take it for much longer. It grows ever more restless like its being beckoned, My desire to be with you grows five centimeters per second. We’ve spoken so many times but we’ve never actually met, And while it makes me happy I’d be lying if I said it didn’t also make me upset. All the conversations in the world couldn’t compare to the warmth of your hand, The feel of your skin or the look in your eye, please understand. I want nothing more on this Earth than to hold you in my arms, The sweet scent of your hair intoxicating me evermore, I’d swear to keep you out of harm’s way. But the more I think about this the further away you seem, The distance between us grows by five kilometres per second, like a dream. The two of us sitting on a hill gazing as the stars come out, I’m overwhelmed by the urge to tell you how I truly feel, I want to scream and shout, until my throat gives out. As the stars glisten so do the silent tears that fall from my eyes, I know I can’t say a thing as reality turns to futility. I realise that we can’t really be together & all I’m left with is five thousand miles of pain… © 2012 Seasick Fist
