Rainbow

Written for my best friend

I choose to sit in the shadows as they comfort me, protected by the long arms of a nearby tree,

While you always choose to bathe in the sun, embracing the light rays turning them into energy, into fun.

You photosynthesise like the most beautiful flower in the world,

Each day you blossom and take every bit of my breath away.

We’ve created somewhat of a co-dependency; you’re the yin to my yang.

You’re the sun to my moon, the fire to my ice,

You’re the pop to my tart, the sugar to my spice,

F**k it, you’re everything nice.

You’re the kick to my flip, the side to my winder,

You’re the roach to my rizla, the dust to my grinder.

Now people might start to get the wrong impression,

Let me stress this is a strictly platonic congression.

For I speak not of a lover, and not of an ex,

But of a best friend, which is basically a relationship without any sex.

You remove the catalyst of chaos, to simplify things,

It prevents clouds of confusion, and it also brings, so clarity,

It lets me, know that no matter how many women we have in our lives,

We will always have each other, that this connection, it thrives!

Just as I know her sneezes often come in three’s and fives.

This is a special bond that’s not easily found and even less easily broken.

It lays dormant deep within our souls awaiting the day when it will be awoken.

Cause this my friend is a bond for life, and when it’s real it’s real, you’ll just know,

This isn’t a fallacy and this isn’t a show.

I’ll explain it one last time and I’ll try to take it slow.

This girl means more to me than I could ever express in spoken word,

When I see her she makes my soul sing like a song bird.

Every time she flutters by it’s like a butterfly has free rein of my insides.

It’s like everyone fades into the shadows, but you have this impalpable glow,

And no matter how dark my life gets, you will always be my rainbow…
