I really think addiction is truly what has set America downhill and This is just one of the they’re many addictions out there. My brother is suffering through drug addiction and is now in jail.
I’m crying enough
To fill a river.
I’m drinking
Enough that
My liver is
Failing me.
Drowning every
Ounce of my
Sorrows with
Liquor.
My roar is
Now just a
Rasp.
I have to gasp
Just to get air
In my lungs.
I know I am
Ailing, but
I do not stop.
I am now
Slipping,

a sad poem indeed .. I previously worked for many years within mental health and addiction services and for many, they struggle to understand the nature of addiction, and often much blame is directed at those who are so afflicted... but remember, whatever drove some one to that point, no one ever, or anywhere set out to become addicted......... I enjoyed this sad and uniquely crafted poem.... Neville

Thank you. I just don’t understand what makes people drive to these things. Is it sadness? Anger? .. read moreThank you. I just don’t understand what makes people drive to these things. Is it sadness? Anger? Or is it just the high?

My grandfather was an alcoholic. The liquor would make him cheerful, but he was never truly happy. He died two years ago and this reminds me of him, we weren't as close as I would've liked, but he knew me better than most and we understood eachother. Thank you for sharing this, the flow is a bit inconsistent, which I like. Nice work.

Sad little poem. Addictions can be deadly. Drowning your sorrows won't help. It might numb the pain for a while but it soon comes back. Cry that river, let the tears flow. Many will relate to these words.
Please don’t judge my writing to harshly I’m a young-adult and am not as experienced as most. I still have my whole life ahead of me so yea. I try to write about what I know (which isn&rsq.. more..
