Moments, 2

Moments, 2

A Poem by Sean Kuchman

A moment sits still as the glassy surface
of a high mountain lake in the few seconds before dawn.
A bird chirps and the sound is instantly swallowed as if it
offends the serenity of the moment.
A car horn sounds, and before it has finished starting,
it is ending; it too has offended.
The silence of a moment is so compelling that it bids,
almost begs you to listen.
It draws you in until there is nothing to do but listen silently
to a moment as it happens.
For just as it came to be, in the moments blink of an eye,
the moment is shattered like the surface of the lake
when the rain drops from the passing clouds.
And as I sit immersed in the moment
I will wait for the moment until the moment passes by.
