Dancing in the Grass

Dancing in the Grass

A Poem by Seamus Underwood
"

A poem about the freedom of nature.

"

I run barefooted in wavy grass,
I feel cool air on my skin,
I perform pirouettes and a Chasse,
And none with a hint of Chagrin,

The sky is clear and fine,
The fields are yours and mine,
For a day we live free,
Just you and me,

The birds perform song,
In the summer days oh so long,
We lay together as the sun sets,
Every day passes to night without regrets.

We sit by the river,
We dive in and shiver,
But as the sun rises high,
We climb out and dry,

Oh to be free,
Filled with glee,
Just you and me,
Under a chestnut tree.

We return to the city,
to the brightly lit streets,
alas, isn’t it a pity,
for all these feats,
all this wonder of engineering,
nothing beats,
that beautiful forest clearing.

Simple love,
Simple nature,
Like a wild creature,
let us go back,
Free as a dove,
Let us unpack,
Live free,
Live free with me.
