A Poem by sea lily
"

for jaya, because she asked.

"
this time,
last year.
i waited for you on street corners
in the rain that flooded wellfield road.
this was before the ice
coating the streets
where we lived.
in the annexe,
around the corner from the shop
where my friend anna used to buy vodka
aged just fifteen.
the lady owned cats
and never asked our age
(we hid from the police.)

you took me,
sweetly
to the sound of Roxanne.
i tried to enjoy myself
and found your skinny legs and bottom
mildly humorous
affecting my concentration
at this Important Moment
cosmopolitan told me
i'd remember for the rest of my life.

i told you, 'i feel like a cat'
and you replied
'you always say that'.
kneading balm into your knuckles
you said were sore.
well i do
crouched here
in the corner of your sofa
then being turfed into the street.

you wanted to take things,
oh so slowly.
