A Poem by sea lily

cafe
the remnants of croissants
pulled apart by ink-stained fingers
with reddened cuticles.
write to me.
flopsy, mopsy, cottontail and peter
soft blonde hair tied back with ribbon.
dresses hiked up
to show cotton knickers.
in polished shoes
we traversed the pavements to school
avoiding the dog messes
distaste for tea
and sunday dinner
mother threw cutlery
and father was a suitcase.
beer in the fridge.
stella artois
and marlborough reds.
i still won't let the boys kiss me,
with that rancid, whiskery face.
before the anxiety.
i still act out every single fantasy.
convinced my hair never curled
i never had to shave any part of my body.
you are all play-actors
i am still me.
