A Poem by sea lily

boys used to treat me,
like some kind of butterfly.
and it's true,
he says, 'you feel so fragile tonight'.
i am not breakable,
but i want to be exceptional.
i want to be more than just another body.
i fill the gap in your armpits,
in your bed.
the quiet recipient of the heartbeat
as i lay on your chest.
the fervour lasts longer than this
please tell me.
talk with me,
love with me.

you are not ungrateful,
and i am not sad. i am nothing. not a butterfly
not the manic dreamweaver of a kooky male fantasy.
i am, 'how was work?'
and 'i agree.'

you write a poem, then go skipping out the back door, saying you're not writing, but living...and, now, again, i have to calling out into the night, 'sea lily, sea lily, come back child, come back...'
