things i learned from you

things i learned from you

A Poem by sea lily

firstly;
kindness is not weakness.
loving is not weakness.
i know now
couples create their own worlds
with names and languages
traditions and rules
and i am full of wanderlust.
(all i wanted
was a little love
and it sent me mad.)
i am a degenerate s**t without you and i need you to want me again.
i was happy
that night
happier than i've been.
like no other,
i know now
there is something beautiful inside of me
despite my attempts
at cruelty
and the debasement
i carry with me constantly.
because you loved me when i was ugly.
what did you see?
at the end of the phone,
the voice that comforted and sang to me
is so far away.
i bite back,
i love you,
love me.
the best and worst thing i ever learned from you.
is that you are my home
but i packed my bags and left.

and you're not letting me come home again.

Clean, elegant and still hits like a sledgehammer. This poem should be the story of a victim, but there is still an aggressive driving force behind the words. You've managed to achieve an alarming sense of dissonance with your structure. I could feel the wedge breaking everything apart.
