the hawker

the hawker

A Poem by sea lily

behind the windscreen,
we are naked
to the rain
and the carrier bags
buffeted around in the wind
and the shale..
in this land.
she spoke;
''i feel as if
we have always been
sat like this
knowing our past
and making our peace
with what we have done
and what we have seen.''
i'll remember you
like this
in years from now
when your heart's been rationed away
to all the women
that found you alone
out there.
grey and pale
and misting my windows
with your breath
hugging your knees
trying to make this
make sense.
and i'll be selling my lips
aching
for a little love.
when the damage has been done..
(you're still the one.)
