evening primrose

evening primrose

A Poem by sea lily

in the morning,
primrose woke.
made long, languorous love
with her eyes tightly closed.
thought,
i am happy
and went back to sleep.
ate breakfast
and under the table
touched feet.
by noon,
her brow had set
she gritted her teeth.
nobody
dare speak to me.
for i am not she
who was me
and made love
and smiled
and was so happy.
her stomach bulged over
the waistband of her skirt.
she packed the contents of her fridge
and set off to work.
with a grim mood
she made a hundred cups of coffee
and would not speak.
on the drive home
she nearly fell back asleep.
but she got home
safely
dropped her bags on the floor
and burst into tears
at the dull ache in her tummy.
refused to be held
'i sometimes do fear
i am going crazy'
said she.
by evening,
primrose sat
wasted and fatigued.
with her lover's head upon her lap.
he was such a strong man
through it all.
i am a woman
and this is my fall.
