beautiful, beautifulA Poem by sea lily
i was all white innocence
drinking at the bar my friends took photographs wishing me luck from afar. she is sullen, i wanted to make her smile and in the dark of the place i whispered it in her hair she smiled then-- i looked to the ceiling but she shook her head and took my hands drew me closer into the dance. 'you're beautiful, beautiful, she said what are you doing with me?' i shook my head fervently. lighting up another cigarette between kisses in the street. and i have wanted you for so long... catching your shadowed eyes in the middle of your band's rock songs. she's a dole baby, no more than five pounds two pennies. and i had money. even if she wouldn't take it from me. we fought then. can't you see, i want to get you home safe? so i ran, like i always do. lost her in the building's grey hues. plied the bouncers with her name. asked them if they'd seen-- beautiful, beautiful, what were you doing with me? © 2010 sea lily |
