A Poem by sea lily

he says,
you're looking white
from this yearning.
needing the serotonin
in the sun
to soothe my brittle eyes
need a lover
to kiss away the guilt that lies
in the caverns of my stomach
need a smile
to twist the corners of my mouth
into something more acceptable
and ingenuous.
need to cry
to cool my cheeks
need to find
all of this.

While I hate to just parrot the learned Mr. Hart (although if you're going to stand on someone's shoulders, who better?), he is correct about the surgical precision of your work. It is a delicate balancing act indeed to be able to both cut out the false and unnecessary emotional clutter in creating a work and keep it from being too spare or incomplete as well. This piece--indeed, virtually all of your writing--succeeds in that trickiest of tasks.

the thing that makes your poetry so precise and surgical, is that you take your honest eyes with you wherever you go...and, inner or outer, you don't mind telling us what you see
