since you last saw me

since you last saw me

A Poem by sea lily

since you last saw me,
i drank heavily.
started a fight
with a man who liked bright eyes
because he was a cheat.
nearly followed another home,
when he kissed me
like i meant something
and held my hand in the street.
i started painting
with ink and water
sat on the rocky harbour
and contemplated
going under.
got a pair of running shoes
from a boy who wanted my name
took to the streets
sprinted through the lanes
until i gasped.
since you saw me last...

you do this so easy...just a one-two-threeish sort of thing, like the rest of us don't have to work for our words, pasting and scraping and fitting 'em together in the hopes they'll pass for a poem; but you, you got poem sticks and glue in your purse, and any time the wind blows easy, or maybe a car horn goes honk honk, you just blink your (such pretty) eyes, and there it is, just like that...oh, this is a compliment...
